Family Mediation Week 2024

Hannah and Pascale • Jan 18, 2024

At Milners, we understand that a relationship breakdown is likely to be highly emotional for all parties. In some circumstances, emotions heightened by numerous disagreements surrounding finances, child arrangements, and property issues. Parties who are unable to agree arrangements are often encouraged to seek out Alternative Dispute Resolution (‘ADR’) methods before considering as a last resort, a court application.

One of the most common forms of ADR within family law is Mediation, whereby qualified mediators meet with and work alongside separating couples with the aim of reaching an amicable agreement and avoiding court proceedings and expensive legal fees.

Mediation allows both parties to exercise more control over their separation which enables both parties to make decisions and have significantly more input in to what will happen with the finances, arrangements for children and other such matters.

After all it is an extremely personal process and without mediation, and in the absence of an agreement, such decisions can ultimately be left to a Judge.

Milners are proud to support Family Law Mediation Week 2024, hosted by The Family Mediation Council. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of family mediation as an alternative to court proceedings and to highlight the important benefits that mediation can bring to separating couples. This year, the event takes place from the 22nd to the 26th of January 2024, with numerous events taking place via Zoom for members of the public, lawyers and other professionals to attend at their convenience.

There are two public events anyone can join; one on Tuesday 23rd January at 5:30pm until 6:30pm and one on Wednesday 24th January 12 noon – 1pm. These public seminars will discuss the benefits that separating families can get by attending mediation. You can register for the Tuesday event here https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_gfMeZD-aRVu3CtqeL7ytxg#/registration and here for the Wednesday session https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3j0dCR91QBm9S6XT_2rFpQ#/registration.
